Head of Sustainability at BDP
Lucy Townsend is Head of Sustainability at BDP, a major interdisciplinary practice of architects, designers, engineers and urbanists. Since joining BDP 9 years ago, Lucy has been instrumental in the development and growth of the specialist sustainability group. Committed to ensuring core sustainable values are embedded in the design and use of buildings and communities, Lucy is passionate about seeking innovative solutions which drive more efficient ways of working, produce better buildings, and improve the wellbeing of occupants.
Her ability to influence and improve the performance of projects and designers is evident through her successful deliver of a wide range of projects. She was lead sustainability consultant for a recently completed low carbon retrofit project which has become the headquarters for the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, where her role saw her working closely with the design team to drive innovation and share lessons learnt to promote and encourage sustainable retrofits.
Lucy is a qualified BREEAM, LEED and WELL AP and has been part of the project teams that have achieved BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ ratings including the Enterprise Centre at the University of East Anglia, and PwC’s 7 More London development.
