Jill Derrington

Head of Design & Construction, BUPA

Jill Derrington is a passionate commercial property professional with over 20 years of international experience, currently employed as the Head of Design & Construction at Bupa Healthcare. Originating from a remote Scottish Island, she embodies resilience, creativity, and has a robust character. Proudly dyslexic, Jill’s brain operates at lightning speed, often solving problems before they arise and allowing her to dig into technical detail. Her journey began with studies in Radio Broadcasting during the pre-digital era, followed by a mid-thirties return to higher education to study Business Administration.

Throughout her career, Jill has been unwaveringly passionate about her work. Despite occasional challenges due to her dyslexia, she consistently finds workarounds and encourages her peers to discover their purpose and embrace authenticity, even if it does leave you feeling vulnerable. Her background spans commercial property, construction, and industrial facilities management. She excels in areas such as commercial construction, facilities management strategy, digital enablement, workplace improvement, procurement, stakeholder engagement, energy management, and commercial office fit-out. Jill’s constant goal is to create healthy workplaces designed for practicality and social purpose.

Believing that intuitive spaces drive productivity, Jill advocates for sustainable buildings and energy efficient environments. Colleagues describe her as strong, caring, easy-going, and adept at bridging gaps between teams and senior management. Her recent involvement in the Executive Advisory Committee (EAC) has provided her the insights into decision-makers’ communication dynamics and has reinforced her prevailing position that there is tremendous business value that can be derived from diverse perspectives in business decision making.
