Barbara Chandler
Founder / Curator, GREEN GRADS
Barbara Chandler was the design writer for Homes & Property at the London Evening Standard for nearly 30 years, known for discovering and fostering new talent. She founded GREEN GRADS in 2021, initially to provide a platform for recent UK graduates whose degree shows had been cancelled by COVID. A decision was taken early on to focus on graduates with ideas to better our failing environment and the enterprise rapidly expanded. Michael Czerwinski came on board as codirector and is show producer.
GREEN GRADS have now held numerous group shows, including The GREEN GRADS Hub at Heal’s (2023) and GREEN GRADS at Yorkton Workshops (2024). They have also appeared in Grand Designs Live (2022, 2023 and 2024); GREEN GRADS IN THE NORTH (GNCCF, Manchester, 2022, 2023 and 2024); Artefact (2023); Craftworks (2024); and Clerkenwell Design Week (2024). They did their first SCHOOLS DAY last year, reaching 360 teenagers at the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School in Islington.
There are now 200 GREEN GRADS listed on the website with full biographies.
GREEN GRADS is supported and financed by an expanding cooperative of forward-facing outward-looking British brands (also listed on the GREEN GRADS website).
“It’s an arguable double whammy for our sponsors – supporting new talent and the environment at one and the same time,” says Barbara Chandler.
